There is nothing like getting to know Baja California from its culture, its crafts and its people. This is what Todos Santos Ranchero Market offers you, where you will enjoy the typical products of the region, accompanied by traditional music and folkloric exhibitions that are held regularly.
Join us in this installment of our blog and learn why you should visit this iconic place of Todos Santos in your next vacation in this ‘pueblo mágico’.
How did the Ranchero market come about?
The project of the most famous organic market in Todos Santos belongs to the artisan Ángela Cota, who since 2016 brings together about forty local producers, who offer delicacies typical of the population. Delight yourself with the wild honey, produced three times a year, which captivates with its notes and colors, coming from each type of plant pollinated by the bees. You will also find a great variety of white and red meats, ranch eggs, sea salt and macerated sauces.
Explore its nooks and crannies with handicrafts, where the most outstanding is the South Californian clay, which has no additives or varnishes. You will also see the famous cots and rocking chairs made of cowhide, highly resistant and comfortable.
With a little luck, you will see the artisans forging the typical Southern Californian knives, made with recycled metals and even silver, as well as pieces of intricate saddlery.
Mercado Ranchero, the right place to delight your palate
If you feel like eating at the Mercado Ranchero in Todos Santos, you will find burritos and pozole, a broth based on corn kernels. For dessert, you can enjoy the piloncillo sweets known as ‘melcocha’, and for refreshment, we invite you to order a glass of ‘guarapo’, a traditional sugar cane drink.
It is worth mentioning that everything is produced organically and with processes that have been passed from generation to generation. As if that were not enough, every year the famous flour tortilla contest is held at this fair, where a handful of cooks gather to delight everyone’s palates.
Come and enjoy the atmosphere of this organic market of Todos Santos, so emblematic, full of a community and festive atmosphere, where you will learn from the hand of the producers. It is located Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Calle Horizonte, Barrio de San Ignacio.
